Welcome! The MAGMA website at Caltech is an online resource for the study of mantle melting and magma evolution. Look here for:

... plus links to other useful igneous petrology, geochmemisty and thermodynamics sites, coming soon.

New on this site: expansion of the forum to cover topics related to the GUI versions of the MELTS software and an online browsable version of the Adiabat_1ph documentation.

Parts of this website are under construction and services may occasionally be interrupted during the next few weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. As many of the pages have moved recently, please let us know if you find any errors or broken links. The Movies server is a beta and, as yet, has no documentation.

The MAGMA website, and the software & tools featured within are maintained by Paula Antoshechkina (e-mail username: psmith) and Paul Asimow (e-mail username: asimow). Please address any questions, comments or bug reports to them (e-mail domain: gps.caltech.edu). The site is hosted by the GPS Division at Caltech.

The generation of this website, and the development, release, and maintenance of the Adiabat_1ph software is supported by the National Science Foundation through grant EAR-0838244. This ARRA-funded project is a collaboration between Caltech and OFM Research, to extend and improve the thermodynamic solution models (specifically garnet and pyroxenes) used by the MELTS family of algorithms. See xMELTS for more information.
